Viruses, bacteria, or fungi are often airborne, spreading through breathing, talking, coughing, sneezing, or any activities which generate aerosol particles or droplets. Virus particles remain in the air for extended periods.
Air disinfection with germicidal light is a well-established technology with demonstrated effectiveness against pathogens. Permanent UV-C installations help provide ongoing defense against the spread of viruses in your public areas.
Air disinfection Solutions (UVGI)
The HVAC systems in indoor spaces , receptions , offices, hospitals, malls etc. re-circulate the pathogens, microbes, virus, etc. along with the cooled air getting re-circulated through HVAC systems. By disinfecting such air in the AHU/air ducts, the Indoor Air Quality can be improved significantly.
A UV-C solution for AHU units
The guide informs the public about ways to improve ventilation and indoor air quality in workplaces, health facilities, residences and public places to reduce the risk of airborne transmission of Covid-19.

-
Irradiation in line with documentation from ASHRAE
-
Digital control panel with BMS integration capability
-
Design based approach – Configurations designed for full coverage of cooling coil
-
Optional integration with AHU on/off and AHU door
Key Benefits of UVGI
- UVC to deactivate DNA of any microbe, pathogen, even Covid-19 virus. Thus reducing the potential of air borne spread
- Improved IAQ in recirculated air (50%-99% reduction in airborne microbes)
- No build up of microbial colonies, mold and mildue on the HVAC cooling coils
- Replaceable UV-C light sources with Safe to use, easy to control.
- Reduced Maintenance – Periodic coil cleaning not required also improving the coil life
- Expanded Sustainability Value Proposition – 10% Savings on 60% of building’s load
Enhancing safety and confidence with UV-C disinfection
Malaysia Ministry unveils ventilation guide to reduce Covid-19 airborne transmission
The Human Resources Ministry of Malaysia has released a guide which approved by the National Security Council (MKN) to improve ventilation and indoor air quality (IAQ) at non-residential setting to reduce the airborne transmission of Covid-19. One of the best practices as a guide to be implemented applies to premises which have mechanical ventilating and air (MVAC) system and spaces without centralized air conditioning system Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) is one of the solutions in effectively improving IAQ and in reducing the risks of airborne virus transmission.

Case Study: Proven effectiveness on inactivating the virus that caused COVID-19
Our test results show that above a specific dose of UV-C radiation, viruses were completely inactivated: in a matter of seconds, we could no longer detect any virus.
Dr. Anthony Griffiths, Associate Professor of Microbiology at Boston University School of Medicine
- COVID-19 infections can be caused by contact with contaminated surfaces and then touching facial areas; additionally, it can also be transmitted through air
- The National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories (NEIDL)1 at Boston University in the US have conducted research that validates the effectiveness of Signify’s UV-C light sources on the inactivation of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
- During their research they have treated inoculated material with different doses of UV-C radiation coming from a Signify light source and assessed the inactivation capacity under various conditions.
- The team applied a dose of 5mJ/cm2, resulting in a reduction of the SARS-CoV-2 virus of 99% in 6 seconds. Based on the data, it was determined that a dose of 22mJ/cm2 will result in a reduction of 99.9999% in 25 seconds.2
1 The NEIDL is a state-of-the-art research facility that encompasses significant containment laboratories at Biosafety Level -2, -3, and -4

Recommendations for UV-C (UVGI)
Bacteria and viruses are transmitted through the air and via surfaces. Research has shown that the germiest air is where people talk (worse where loud talking or shouting occurs), and on surfaces frequently touched by students.
We recommend school authorities to consider 3 main types of UV-C (UVGI) disinfection solutions:
- Air disinfection in selected areas
- Spaces that are occupied for extended periods: Classrooms, cafeterias, lobbies, auditoriums, gyms…
- Surface disinfection
- Desktops, tabletops, lab benches,…
- Lockers, gym equipment, playground equipment…
- Object disinfection
- Cafeteria trays, keyboards, supplies, and areas where possible touchpoints with high possibilities of surface contamination.
Our End-to-End Service Offer
Professional services
The effectiveness and safe application of a UV-C solution starts with the right application design
- Our lighting design team will analyze with you in which type of areas you want to apply the UV-C solution
- An audit on type of walls, materials used, fans, ventilation of these areas can be performed to define the dynamics of the room to ensure a maximum effect and application safety.
- Furthermore, a UV-C lighting and system design will be made for these areas with the right UV light output, the right position, mounting height, angle and functionality of the UV-C devices
Staff training & certification
Before your staff operate UV-C devices as part of new cleaning processes, we will provide safety training courses.
These can be done via our lighting academy and will certify installers and staff members:
- To be knowledgeable on all major aspects of UV-C, its effectiveness and potential risks
- How to install, use and maintain the solutions in a safe manner, avoiding UV-C exposure to people and animals
Lifecycle Services
Like all lighting products, UV-C lamps have a defined lifetime within which they are operating at maximum effectiveness.
- Our control systems can monitor and report on lamp burning hours or failures of fixed installations to provides proactive lamp maintenance to ensure effective use.
- Our service teams plan scheduled visits to provide and install replacement lamps safely and verify UV-C output so you can trust that solutions remain at optimal effectiveness.
